Discover Joyce

If you're ever in the mood for a cozy, unpretentious dining experience in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, then Joyce at 770 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90017, should be on your radar. The spot has quickly become a local favorite for anyone looking to enjoy comfort food with a twist. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or looking to unwind over dinner, Joyce offers something for everyone, from simple classics to exciting new dishes.

The atmosphere here strikes the perfect balance between laid-back and modern. As soon as you step through the door, you're greeted by warm lighting and a minimalist design that makes you feel right at home. It's the kind of place where you can relax, chat with friends, or enjoy a solo meal without feeling rushed or out of place. The casual yet refined vibe makes it the ideal choice for almost any occasion.

The menu at Joyce offers a mix of hearty meals and lighter bites, but what really sets it apart are the small details. Whether you're in the mood for something rich and filling or something a little healthier, there’s always a good choice. For starters, the crispy Brussels sprouts are a crowd favorite-perfectly caramelized and paired with just the right amount of seasoning. If you're looking for a classic American diner dish, the burger here doesn’t disappoint, especially when paired with the hand-cut fries that have a satisfying crunch.

Another standout dish is the roasted chicken, served with a flavorful herb-infused gravy. It’s the kind of dish that feels like a hug in food form. Even those with dietary restrictions can find something to enjoy, with multiple vegetarian and gluten-free options available on the menu. The chefs are always willing to accommodate dietary preferences, which is a nice touch that adds to the overall experience.

In addition to the food, Joyce’s drink menu offers an extensive selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Whether you're in the mood for a classic cocktail, a glass of wine, or a refreshing mocktail, there’s something to suit every taste. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks they serve, often offering great recommendations based on your preferences. Plus, they’re always happy to chat about the various local breweries and wineries they partner with.

One of the things that sets Joyce apart from other spots in the area is its commitment to sustainability. The ingredients are locally sourced, and the restaurant works with farmers and producers who share their values of ethical and responsible practices. This commitment shines through in the quality of the food, as everything from the vegetables to the meats is fresh, flavorful, and high-quality. It’s a great feeling to know that you’re supporting a place that values both great food and responsible sourcing.

Of course, no dining experience would be complete without a little dessert. Joyce offers a rotating selection of sweets that are perfect for rounding off your meal. The chocolate cake, dense and rich, is a must-try for any chocolate lover. It's the kind of dessert that leaves you with a satisfying, sweet finish without being overly indulgent. For those with a lighter preference, the fruit sorbet is a refreshing option that cleanses the palate and provides a lighter, but equally enjoyable, end to the meal.

When it comes to service, Joyce truly excels. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure your experience is top-notch. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or a special night out, the staff make you feel like you're part of the family, ensuring that every need is met without being overbearing.

Overall, Joyce is a fantastic option for anyone looking to enjoy great food in a relaxed yet modern atmosphere. With a menu that caters to a variety of tastes, friendly service, and an inviting environment, it's easy to see why this restaurant has become a popular destination. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Los Angeles, Joyce is definitely worth checking out.

  • The vibe was dope but some menu items were not available along with some of the food (such as the duck) was overcooked. The drinks were definitely on point! To be paying some hefty prices for the food, portion size and quality could have been better. Maybe best during happy hour.

  • Came for a last minute dinner as it was close to my hotel. Left incredibly impressed. The cocktails were scrumptious and the food was outstanding. The price was great! Hope to come back.

  • 10/10 happy hour. Joyce won’t stiff you on these $12 small plates and $10 cocktails. Wish I remembered the bartender’s name because she was killer. Was recommended tthe oysters bienvelle and fried game hen . Oysters were LOADED with cheese and gravy, these were a treat. Seasoning on the chicken was some of the best I’ve had, and paired with the homemade ranch, this was a winner as well. Vibe inside is quite elegant for southern cuisine, but still approachable. Should be packed daily for happy hour.

  • Excellent on all fronts! The cocktails were scrumptious. My group ordered shrimp and grits, mac and cheese, scallops, and catfish. Each dish was delicious.

  • My first time here with my sisters and friends. It was a group of 5 of us. We had reservations for brunch at noon on today, a Saturday, and were seated immediately. They had a very friendly, helpful and professional staff. Our main server was Tony who was super helpful and informative. Including everything we ordered we had the Fried Chicken and Waffles, Nashville Hot Fried Catfish, Sunday Collards, Cast Iron Mac & Cheese, Curry Braised Beef & Sweet Potato Hash, Edisto Island Cornbread, Iced Sweet Tea and Iced Matcha Latte. The chicken and beef were tender. The food was mostly good and we were satisfied. Everything could've been seasoned more as we like our foods seasoned well. The catfish was more tasty with the hot sauce we added. The waffles were way more tastier with the syrup added. And FYI, the chicken and waffles contain pecans. The collards could've used a more Southern touch of seasonings. But all in all, we did enjoy the food. The sweet tea and matcha latte were not sweet upon getting them but Tony explained they usually make them that way because some people don't like them sweetened, but had no problem immediately taking the drinks back to sweeten them for us, which made them just right. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced. They do automatically include a 4% service charge on the bill to cover the added expense of using a credit card. But if you pay cash they will remove the service fee. The atmosphere is very cozy and nice. It's a good size restaurant without being too big but not too small, nice and quaint with indoor and outdoor seating. We did sit inside. I parked directly across the street in the parking garage that was $14 for full day parking and we were there for a few hrs. All in all, we enjoyed the food and everything and would return again.

  • My first time at this restaurant was very pleasant. I came here for a friend’s birthday and it did not disappoint. Although my friends weren’t very impressed with their food, I enjoyed mine. We ordered the cornbread to start and though the taste was good, we wished it were bigger. Not really enough to share, honestly. The birthday girl ordered the fried chicken which came with biscuits and pickles, and she requested a side of macaroni and cheese. I sampled her Mac and cheese and it was nice and cheesy, but the smoked Gouda flavor was overwhelming. My other friend ordered the collard greens which were delicious! For my plate, I ordered the braised short rib with asparagus and yams which was absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend this dish! Drinks were great, albeit pricey. Other than my food, our waiter, Tony, was so accommodating and helpful. He made our experience so welcoming, it felt like home. Overall, Joyce is a good place for brunch or a dinner date. Will definitely be back!
